Plan ahead for the heat

When hot days are forecast it’s important to plan ahead.

πŸ”΄ Stay up to date with the weather forecasts in your area

πŸ”΄ If you have something planned for the hottest part of a very hot day, consider if you can cancel. If that’s not possible, try to reschedule for the coolest part of the day

πŸ”΄ Make sure you have what you need so you don’t have to go out in the heat. Having plenty of food – including some that doesn’t need refrigeration – is a good idea, as is filling some bottles with water and popping them in the fridge. Check if you have any medications you might need.

πŸ”΄ On a cooler day, visit your GP to check if you need to change your medications during extreme heat. It’s also important that you store any medications you have at the appropriate temperature

πŸ”΄ Check that your fan or air conditioner works and organise repairs if you need to

πŸ”΄ There are things you can do to make your home cooler. Install shade cloths or external blinds. The night before a hot day, close your curtains and blinds
