November is lung cancer awareness month
Smoking is a key risk factor for lung cancer. According to Cancer Council Victoria:
– About 90% of lung cancer cases in males and 65% of cases in females in Australia are thought to be due to smoking.
– The earlier you start smoking, the longer you smoke and the more cigarettes you smoke, the higher your risk of developing lung cancer.
– Other risk factors include passive smoking, exposure to asbestos and other elements, family history and more.
