Q: Can I tan safely?
A: No. There is no such thing as a safe tan.
Production of melanin in the skin after exposure to UV radiation (tanning) is a sign of skin damage, just as sunburn is. Over time, the effects of repeated skin damage build up, increasing the risk of skin cancer (and causing fine lines and wrinkles too).
To look after your skin and reduce your risk of skin cancer, use a combination of sun protection measures every day.
It’s also important to be on the look-out for any changes that could be a sign of skin cancer developing. Check all of your skin regularly – not just sun-exposed areas. If you notice any change in shape, colour or size of a spot, or the development of a new spot, visit your doctor as soon as possible.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. This is an important time of the year, that brings the community together to help provide awareness, and to inform and educate people on the signs and symptoms of the disease. It is the fifth most common cancer in Australia, with around 12,000 Australians diagnosed each year.
In 2015, 11,788 new cases of lung cancer were diagnosed in Australia, this equates to nearly 9% of all cancers that were diagnosed that year. In 2016, 8410 deaths were caused by lung cancer in Australia.
